Business and Economic Development Director

The Business and Economic Development Director will prospect and engage with targeted businesses to analyze and identify needs and opportunities that will assist their growth and success. The Business and Economic Development Director will actively work to attract new companies to the region and assist existing companies with job growth and expansion activities by connecting both to incentives and sites that catalyze their growth.  The Business and Economic Development Director will plan for and attend targeted industry trade shows and manage a prospect pipeline through proactive outreach. The Business and Economic Development Director will prepare and manage a portfolio of marketing materials and relevant data as well as develop relationships with Site Selectors such that the region is effectively represented.  Maintaining an up-to-date database for development sites and actively working to expand the inventory of ready and available sites in the region will be critical roles for the position.  Job performance standards for this position will be based on the ability to quickly and effectively respond to inquiries for projects and the attraction/creation of jobs and capital investment in the region.

 

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities: (Additional duties may be assigned)

  • Populate and maintain a Prospect List of interested or potential companies seeking to relocate or grow in the region and proactively develop the opportunities.
  • Maintain a database of available development sites for various types of projects.
  • Acquire and maintain a comprehensive knowledge of the local, state, and federal incentives for economic development projects.
  • Keep current on the various data sets and sources with pertinent demographic and industry information.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the elements of deal structuring and project financing.
  • Plan and implement trade show booths/presence that adequately and effectively represents the region at targeted industry trade shows.
  • Respond to inquiries for potential projects by providing appropriate site, workforce, community and incentive information.
  • Collaborate with regional economic development professionals throughout the CenterState CEO regional footprint to support their business development efforts.
  • Provide support for the UAS Central brand and attraction efforts around Unmanned Aerial Systems.
  • Manage budgets and expenditures for programmatic work and administer grants from implementation through reimbursement/deliverables.

 

Education and Experience: 

  • 4-6 years’ experience in economic development, community development, sales, account management or another relevant field.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Advanced education or additional work experience can be substituted.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Outstanding relationship-building and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community;
  • Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally (approximately 10 percent of time)
  • Strong listening skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills;
  • Significant experience utilizing CRM system for inputting, reporting and analyzing data preferred;  
  • Strong analytic ability; must be able to collect, analyze, manipulate, interpret, report and utilize data;
  • An entrepreneurial self-starter;
  • Experienced at building effective partnerships across diverse stakeholders;
  • Work at the highest level of integrity, honesty and openness.


Physical and Mental Requirements:

  • Close mental and visual attention required to perform work, verbal communication, using a computer, and/or extensive reading.
  • General office equipment is used.

 

Work Environment:

There is no exposure to adverse environmental conditions. Work is performed in a typical office work environment with outside travel to client/member/prospect locations.
