SYRACUSE, NY (June 26, 2019) - Please find below a revised July 2019 calendar of events for the Milton J. Rubenstein Museum of Science & Technology (MOST).

 

The MOST will be open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Wednesday through Sunday, throughout the month. Offered Wednesdays through Sundays, domed IMAX films will be shown in the Bristol IMAX Omnitheater. On Saturdays and Sundays, MOST Science Educators will demonstrate various scientific topics, and three planetarium shows will offered. Sensory friendly kits are always available to sign out from the Science Shop free of charge. For more information, visit the MOST website at www.most.org or call 315.425.9068.

COST: Exhibit admission is free for MOST members. For nonmembers, exhibit admission is $12/adult, $10/child (ages 2-11) & $10/senior (ages 65+). Children under the age of 2 are free.

The MOST will be closed on Thursday, July 4 for the Independence Day holiday and reopen on Friday, July 5.

 

Syracuse's first-ever permanent dinosaur exhibit, Dino Zone!, presented by Honest Engine Films, will open to the public with grand opening weekend on Saturday, July 13 and Sunday, July 14 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Experience fascinating prehistoric creatures as you travel back in time to the age of the dinosaurs with the Museum's new permanent dinosaur collection. The exhibit's moving lifelike dinos were created with guidance from paleontologists and are displayed in scenes that depict what life was like on Earth more than 65 million years ago! Enjoy hands-on dino dig experiments, get creative with dino crafts in the MAKE exhibit, and experience a special dino-themed planetarium show at 12:15 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday!

COST: Exhibit included with exhibit admission. Planetarium show is $3/attendee. Exhibit admission is free for MOST members. For nonmembers, exhibit admission is $12/adult, $10/child (ages 2-11) & $10/senior (ages 65+). Children under the age of 2 are free.

Experience Jurassic World presented in OmniHD as the action-packed dinosaur thriller takes to the domed screen at the MOST on July 12 starting at 7 p.m. Located off the coast of Costa Rica, the Jurassic World luxury resort provides a habitat for an array of genetically engineered dinosaurs, including the vicious and intelligent Indominus Rex. When the massive creature escapes, it sets off a chain reaction that causes the other dinos to run amok. Now, it's up to a former military man and animal expert (Chris Pratt) to use his special skills to save two young brothers and the rest of the tourists from an all-out, prehistoric assault.

COST: $12/adult, $8/child (ages 2-11), $8/senior (ages 65+).

This summer, the MOST will offer four (4) one-day camps for children ages 6 to 12 throughout Fourth of July week. All camps are limited to 20 total attendees and run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

  • Monday, July 1 - Be the Environmental Scientist
  • Tuesday, July 2 - Be the Doctor
  • Wednesday, July 3 - Be the Computer Scientist
  • Friday, July 5 - Be the Marine Biologist

The MOST will offer a week-long Mysteries at the MOST Forensics Camp from July 22 through July 26 running 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. There's been a crime at the MOST! Campers will dust for prints, analyze DNA, examine specimens through a microscope, and more! The last day will feature a challenge where campers can test their new skills: a whole new crime scene to analyze!

The MOST will offer a week-long Mission to Mars Space Camp from July 29 through August 2 running 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. What does it take to be an astronaut? Discover what it takes to launch a shuttle, explore a planet, and work as a team! This week of astrophysics and astronomy all leads up to the main event: a live simulated space mission.

The MOST's M&T Bank presents: Amazon Adventure exhibit, will be on display in the Horowitz Traveling Exhibit Area throughout the month. Amazon Adventure is your portal into the greatest aquatic biodiversity in the world as well as the largest and most biodiverse tropical rainforest on Earth. The exhibit provides visitors with a closer look at the regional landscapes and animals that scientists study in the vast and diverse Amazon region. The Amazon faces many environmental threats from human activity including commercial fishing and logging, and visitors learn about threats and what can be done to remedy them from the perspective of local fishermen and scientists.

On Saturdays and Sundays at 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m., get hands-on with the MOST's Mobile Science Lab! Visitors can test out LIVE experiments at the MOST's mobile laboratory station, touring the exhibit floor 3 times per day! July's theme will feature space-related experiments. Get hands-on as you discover, learn & play with one of the Museum's Science Educators!

Bank of America Museums On Us weekend takes place at the MOST during the first full weekend of every month. On Saturday, July 6 and Sunday, July 7, present a Bank of America or Merrill Lynch debit or credit card with valid photo ID for one FREE MOST exhibit admission. The MOST's Zoo in the Sky planetarium show will be offered throughout the month at 11:15 a.m. every Wednesday through Sunday. Explore the stories, myths and legends of seasonal constellations! This show is suitable for young children.

COST: FREE for MOST members; exhibit admission plus additional $3 planetarium show fee per person for nonmembers.

The MOST's Mission: Moon planetarium show will be offered throughout the month at 1:15 p.m. every Wednesday through and Sunday. Learn about some of the important Apollo Missions and future missions to the moon in honor of the 50th anniversary of humans landing on the moon with Apollo 11. This show will include facts about our moon and other interesting moons in the solar system. The planetarium show concludes with us taking a look at popular seasonal constellations in the nighttime sky.

COST: FREE for MOST members; exhibit admission plus additional $3 planetarium show fee per person for nonmembers.

The MOST's The Stargazer's Sky planetarium show will be offered throughout the month at 3:15 p.m. every Wednesday through Sunday. With the summer season upon us, gaze into the night sky just as you would on a warm summer night. We'll show you what constellations and other special objects are visible across the summer sky!

COST: FREE for MOST members; exhibit admission plus additional $3 planetarium show fee per person for nonmembers.

On July 20, 2019 starting at 11 a.m., the MOST will host the New York regional competition of the nationwide Apollo Next Giant Leap Student (ANGLeS) Challenge being held in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 spaceflight mission that landed the first humans on the Moon. Students in grade five through 12 will test their hands at simulating a lunar landing of their own through use of a drone and programmable LEGO robot. Visitors of the MOST are encouraged to stop by and check out the challenge.

July's Be the Scientistwill take place on Saturday, July 27 from noon to 4 p.m. on the topic: Be the AstronautPresented by Summerwood Pediatrics, the Be the Scientist program enables visitors to learn, engage and explore the activities of a different type of scientist on the last Saturday of every month. Participants receive an Explorer Card to track progress through the program's three steps: Learn, Engage, Explore. Earn your Explorer Card punch each month and win a prize after 12 completed sessions! Most suitable for children ages 6 and up.
