The Syracuse Surge Entrepreneurship Manager is responsible for administration of a competitive program, which creates the opportunity for entrepreneurial teams, led by BIPOC (Black-Indigenous-Persons of Color) founders, to launch and accelerate tech related startups in Syracuse, New York. The Syracuse Surge Entrepreneurship Manager is also responsible for overseeing companies’ progress and funding requests, and planning and assembling workshops, events and conferences. The Manager will work closely with the Economic Inclusion, Tech Garden and Communications teams at CenterState CEO.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Partner with the VP of Economic inclusion and VP of Innovation and Entrepreneurship to finalize the program plan and take on overall responsibility for the successful execution of the program.
  • Ensure the best possible experience to founders, mentors, partners, investors and other program stakeholders.

General Administration and Program Execution:

  • Day-to-day management; keep the program running including regular engagement with teams, facilitating program content, connecting teams to mentors and service providers.
  • Through programming and events, support the development of a strong culture within the program that values diversity, collaboration, mutual support and high performance. Help connect teams to other teams in The Tech Garden.

Event Planning and Logistics:

  • Execute events in support of the Surge Accelerator including those that emphasize recruitment, networking and professional development to help establish teams within the Syracuse community and its business ecosystem.
  • Coordinate logistics and support teams to organize relocation and travel to Syracuse
  • Manage the “Surge Mastermind” group (a mentorship network for teams) and facilitate team engagements with Mastermind members

Company Status and Task Management:

  • Support teams, including understanding the needs of cohort teams and coordinate services to support those needs.
  • Work with internal and external service providers to support teams. Align internal team with cohort needs and work with technical assistance providers to connect teams with advisers and mentors.

Program Documentation and Resource Planning:

  • Ensure program outcomes, metrics and deliverables are properly tracked and recorded.
  • Manage program budget.

Marketing and Team Selection Management:

  • Work with the CenterState CEO Communications team to execute outreach and recruitment.
  • Manage the application process including coordination of the selection committee, and communication with applicants.
  • Represent the program in public events and media engagements as needed.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Travel:

Valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation required for local travel within the region to required events, meetings and appointments.

Minimum Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree and two or more years of experience in the field of entrepreneurship or small business required. A master’s degree in a relevant field with related experience preferred.

Special Requirements:

  • Salesforce experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with Lean launchpad tools, business plan canvas, etc. preferred.
  • Experience working with entrepreneurs and startups preferred.
  • Experience in event planning preferred.

  • Must be able to work varied hours outside of normal office hours.
  • Be an enthusiastic self-starter with well-developed administrative, organizational and self-management skills with the ability to multi-task and problem solve.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience with data collection and evaluation tools; ability to track outputs and aggregate data.
  • Must be able to take initiative, work independently, as well as with team, determine priorities, and make appropriate decisions to meet scheduled deadlines.
  • Demonstrated positive customer service skills to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Computer proficiency including word processing, Excel, spreadsheets, PowerPoint and generating reports using standard software applications.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing, verbally, on the telephone, virtually and in person.
  • Ability to listen to, understand and follow directions in English.

Physical and Mental Requirements:

  • Close mental and visual attention required to perform work, verbal communication, using a computer terminal, and/or extensive reading.
  • General office equipment is used.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 20 pounds and push and/or pull up to 20-pound loads at a time relative to event-based equipment.
  • Must be able to sit for long periods of time.

Work Environment:

There is no exposure to known adverse environmental conditions. Work is performed in a typical office work environment.
