Clean Communities of Central New York (CCCNY) is an organization formed to support the Clean Cities Program, a voluntary federal initiative sponsored by the US Department of Energy (DOE). Clean Cities encourages local governments and organizations to form partnerships in the developing markets for alternative fueled vehicles (AFV's). Alternative fuels are methanol, ethanol, natural gas, propane, hydrogen, coal-derived liquids, biodiesel, and electricity. The goal of the program is to reduce dependence on imported oil, reduce air pollution from vehicle emissions, assist local business and government with regulatory environmental compliance, encourage economic development through job creation, and to create a positive community image. CCCNY has recently been awarded funding through the US DOE's Clean Cities /Economic Stimulus Program, bringing 5.2 Million dollars of investment in clean fueled vehicles and infrastructure to Central NY. |
