The new law enacted in 2018 and expanded in 2019 with the NYS budget requires all public and private employers to provide annual sexual harassment training along with written sexual harassment prevention policies that meets certain standards.

In the new sexual harassment law, all public and private employers must provide annual training, give their employees sexual harassment policies, and communicate in writing their specific procedures that meet or exceed the requirements outlined in a model notice provided by the NYS Department of Labor and the Division of Human Rights.

Yet, there continues to be some misunderstanding on who is required to comply with the new laws.

The answer is “You!”

Even if you are a sole proprietor, you need to know how the new laws cover independent contractors, volunteers and non-employees. Trainings must be designed to train both employees/owners with supervisory duties and a separate training for staff.

  • The training program meets & exceeds all mandated content & training requirements found in Section 201-g of NYS Labor Law.
  • The program is designed to train all employees during the first hour, with a special supervisory session at the end. Allocate 1 hour for the first portion and ½ hour for the second portion of this training.
  • Companies & organizations will be provided documentation that they have delivered training.
