SYRACUSE, N.Y. — New data shows that more people are moving to Syracuse than before, many from major cities like New York City and Boston.
This comes from the change of address information provided by the United States Postal Service.
CenterState CEO's Jared Shepard says more people are coming to Syracuse for the jobs and low cost of living.

In the past year, the number of people who moved from New York City to Syracuse increased by 70 percent.
“We might see an increase by 5 percent from one year to the next or we might see a decrease of 5 percent - that’s typical. But a 70 percent jump is clearly significant,” says CenterState CEO's Jared Shepard.
Shepard says people are moving here from big cities for many reasons.
“A lot of this has to do with our low cost of living and our excellent housing stock and of course the job opportunities, amenities, all the reasons we all live here and love Central New York.”
Data shows that the younger population makes up a large percentage of those moving to CNY.
“Meaning that they are going to be spending more time in the workforce and spending more money on consumer goods, housing, and things like that.”
