The Tech and Culture Speaker Series is devoted to promoting diversity, inclusion, and belonging in tech related fields. The series will highlight diverse speakers who are currently leading in the tech industry and allow them to share their personal stories, which will inspire, motivate and transform the mindset of the diverse audiences.

Our speaker for the upcoming program on October 29, 2020 will be Dr. Wayne J. Hilson, Jr.,  Executive Director of the Office of Academic Diversity Initiatives (OADI) at Cornell University.

In his role as the Executive Director of the OADI, Dr. Hilson’s mission is to empower students to develop and leverage their own academic agency as they seek to achieve their scholastic, professional, and personal goals. Dr. Hilson holds a PhD in Higher Education & Student Affairs from Indiana University, an MS in Education from Purdue University, and a BS in Mechanical Engineering, also from Purdue University. It was when he first began his career in industry nearly 25 years ago and started volunteering to speak to underrepresented, pre-college and undergraduate students about the power of education and career opportunities in STEM, that he realized he could have greater impact by dedicating his career to serving diverse student populations in higher education. He also serves as co-coordinator of the STEM-track at the annual Assessment Institute conference as well as a peer reviewer for the Higher Learning Commission.
